A Female Scientist should change her name when she gets married?

Whether or not a woman changes her last name to her husband’s has nothing to do with how much they love and respect one another. It is a personal decision that should be respected, no matter what that decision is. However, I am thinking that changing the name might lead some problems especially for the female scientists.

Studying in Vienna, Austria

Gregor Mendel, Sigmund Freud, Alfred Adler, Konrad Lorenz, Erwin Schrödinger… e.t.c. It was great honor for me to be graduated from the same university from where these great scientists graduated too. If you’re currently in the process of deciding where to study and have thought, “Why study in Austria?” the answer is simple. Austria’s location […]

Leptin and pulmonary arterial hypertension

Leptin deficiency recapitulates the histological features of pulmonary arterial hypertension in mice. Abstract Leptin is a neuroendocrine peptide released by adipose tissue that enhances metabolism and acts on the hypothalamus to suppress appetite. Leptin also regulates aspects of cardiovascular function and low serum leptin has been associated with increased mortality in humans. We hypothesized that […]

Hyaluronan – Cancer

The relationship between plasma hyaluronan levels and anthracycline-related cardiotoxicity in breast cancer patients. Abstract AIM: Anthracycline-derived antineoplastic agents are used as the main form of treatment in many malignant diseases, including breast cancer and childhood cancers. Cardiotoxicity is one of the most feared life-threatening complications of cancer therapy. In the present study, we aimed to […]

Protein Signaling in Idiopathic Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension.

Bone Morphogenic Protein Type 2 Receptor Mutation-Independent Mechanisms of Disrupted Bone Morphogenetic Protein Signaling in Idiopathic Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. Altered bone morphogenic protein (BMP) signaling, independent of BMPR2 mutations, can result in idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH). Glucose dysregulation can regulate multiple processes in IPAH. However, the role of glucose in BMP antagonist expression in […]

High Levels of Hyaluronan in Idiopathic Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension

While different cell types have long been known to contribute to the development of pulmonary hypertension, it is not very clear if the supportive material found between the cells (known as the matrix) is abnormal in this disease. We decided to find out whether hyaluronan, which is one of the components of the matrix, has […]
